If you are looking for a good walking holiday destination in the UK, then there is nowhere better than North Wales. Here you can take on mountain hikes up to the summit of iconic mountains such as Snowdon, stroll alongside beautiful lakes such as Llyn Idwal Lake and enjoy breathtaking views and you walk along the North Wales Coastal Path.
In total, the North Wales coastal path is 60 miles long with there being plenty of worthwhile seaside towns to visit along the way. This includes Colwyn Bay which is located less than 4 miles away from Bryn Defaid Holiday Park.
The North Wales Coastal Path is your pathway to unlimited adventures and Colwyn Bay Promenade is the perfect place to start your journey.
Colwyn Bay Promenade
The Conwy council have recently invested heavily into a complete rejuvenation of the Colwyn Bay Promenade, turning it into one of the most modern and well equipped promenades in the UK.
Here you’ll find a plethora of facilities made up of award winning restaurants, cafes, ice cream vendors and fun facilities for children such as hopscotch boards and educational toys such as their sound carrying apparatus.
Adults are also taken into account, with plenty of seating opportunities for those who struggle to walk long distances and even recharging points in some of the benches for phones, tablets and laptops. Colwyn Bay Beach has also become the first in North Wales to offer free WiFi to tourists, ensuring that you are never disconnected from friends and family back home.
When it comes to eateries, you can try one of the award winning Parisella’s ice creams, grab a bite to eat at the Bryn Williams restaurant or dine at one of the kiosks or cafes which are to be found along Colwyn Bay promenade.
Colwyn Bay Promenade is also dog friendly as long as you keep your pooch on a lead at all times. Your four legged companion is sure to relish the long walks along the North Wales Coastal Path as much as you, with the adjoining seaside town of Rhos-on-Sea just 1.5 away in one direction, and Llanddulas 3 miles away in the opposite direction.
North Wales Coastal Path
With a total length of 60 miles, it’s highly unlikely that you will walk the entire length of the North Wales coastal path in one go. Running from Bangor to Chester in England, there are countless landmarks and seaside destinations to enjoy along the way. We’d highly recommend visiting these in bitesize chunks during your many visits to your caravan or holiday lodge on the North Wales Coast at Bryn Defaid Holiday Park.
Nearby Colwyn Bay is probably the best place to start your adventures, but there are plenty of other nearby seaside towns to consider. One of which is Llandudno which is of course home to an historic pier, one of the UK’s few remaining cable operated tramways and the glorious Great Orme headland that you can walk around whilst admiring spectacular views and wildlife. Other popular seaside towns in North Wales that you will frequent along the way are Talacre, Rhyl, Prestatyn and Pensarn to name but a few.
There are also plenty of attractions that will appeal to history buffs, one of which is the 13th century Flint Castle which was constructed by King Edward I during his Welsh crusade. Situated on the Dee Estuary, you will be able to enjoy wonderful views from the top of the castle's towers.
If you do explore every inch of the path and find yourself in Chester, it is well worth paying a visit into the city centre. This historic walled Roman city has something to offer everyone with plenty of historic Roman landmarks, fabulous restaurants, bars and a vibrant shopping district.
